Inspirational Quote Guy

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, if I need someone else to inspire me to do better professionally, I am in the wrong line of work. – Me

I can see it now, you are sitting on your couch at 2PM, with your laptop, eating Cheetos, you haven’t showered in 4 days, haven’t shaved in a week, you are watching Judge Judy…

…and then you log onto Facebook and Twitter and see these posts from a few of your “friends”:

Try not to become a man of success but a man of value. – Albert Einstein

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them. – Henry David Thoreau

Inspiration and genius–one and the same. – Victor Hugo

To find what you seek in the road of life, the best proverb of all is that which says: “Leave no stone unturned. – Edward Bulwer Lytton

So immediately you jump up, get into Hulk mode, shower, shave, read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”, run a marathon and then make 75 cold calls to every CEO in town! Right? RIGHT!?

See, I never understood that about people that cut and paste random “inspirational quotes” to Social media sites. Is that what they teach you at those <gag> $20 “Social Media Classes”? Are you trying to remain relevant? Do you think those random quotes you just Google’d and cut and pasted half-ass’ed are actually going to “inspire” someone to do anything?

(Other than maybe hitting the ‘Hide’ button)

Also, I never understood Tony Robbins and the like. So here you have some businessman or some lawyer or some construction worker that is sitting around with no direction, no desire, then hears someone say “You are a BAMF! Go out there and get ’em Tiger!!!1!” and then these people immediately turn into these amazing business people and productive members of society.

Understand something, I am the most non-complacent person you have probably ever met. I constantly strive to be better, faster, stronger (and some would say fatter :D), but at the end of the day, I am never satisfied. I am always learning, I am always reading trade rags, I am always calling people looking for the latest inside scoop, I am always networking. This is why I never understood spending quality time during business hours looking to be “inspired” on something you supposedly love doing, or worse, trying to “inspire”.

So if you are “That Guy” and think the 12 seconds you spend in the morning cutting and pasting something fromhttp://www.inspirationalquotes4u.com (That’s actually a real site, LOL) is actually going to get people off the couch and do something productive, well, I have a message for you…

…until next time.
